The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team joined the school's women's team in earning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic team honor this past week. UTC is the only Southern Conference school - and one of just 48 nationally - to receive ITA academic recognition for both its men's and women's teams. The award is given to programs with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale, and the Mocs posted a 3.26 GPA to earn the honor for the second time in program history and first since 2002. Individual ITA Scholar Athlete awards went to Michael Birnbaum, Gino Delavalle and Pavels Grigorjevs, who each had an individual GPA of 3.50 or better. "I am very proud of our team for this achievement," Mocs coach Carlos Garcia said in a release. "It takes a lot of hard work and everyone has to be on the same page to earn this type of recognition. It is great to see our guys' efforts receive recognition."
