* Bryan College freshman goalkeeper Alex Horton was the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer defensive player of the week for games through last Saturday, and Tennessee Wesleyan senior forward Nduka Kemjika was the offensive honoree. Both are from England. Horton had six saves in a 0-0 draw against Lee and four in a 2-1 win over St. Andrews. Kemjika scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Montreat and the winning penalty kick in overtime against Milligan. Tennessee Wesleyan won 4-3 at Bluefield (Va.) College in an AAC match Wednesday, improving to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. Bryan won 3-2 against visiting Reinhardt University on Wednesday, improving to 5-3-2 and 2-0-1.

* Also on Wednesday, Tennessee Wesleyan's women's team lost 1-0 at Bluefield, dropping its records to 4-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the AAC. Bryan's Lady Lions fell by the same score to visiting Reinhardt and are 3-5 and 1-2.

* The Covenant College soccer teams faced Piedmont in a USA South doubleheader Wednesday at Chattanooga Christian School, with the Lady Scots losing 1-0 in overtime on Cassidy Reich's 96th-minute goal, which was assisted by Morgan Edelman. Rachel Lemay made five saves for Covenant (4-3, 2-2), which managed just one shot on goal and was unable to keep Piedmont from running its undefeated streak to 10 matches overall and five in league play. Covenant's men trailed 1-0 after Piedmont's 20th-minute score, but Noah Wiersema's unassisted goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation play sent the match to overtime as the Scots (2-5) tried to win their second straight match to start league play.
