For the second year in a row, the Volkswagen Workers Foundation recently donated $200,000 for introducing soccer to local children. That makes $500,000 given by the foundation in its partnership since spring 2016 with the Chattanooga Football Club Foundation and the Operation Get Active grassroots soccer program, according to a news release. This past spring, OGA reached more than 500 boys and girls from 17 elementary schools (up from 10 in spring 2017), a middle school, six city youth and family centers and the nonprofit Signal Centers, according to the release. The initiative has involved more than 2,000 kids since its inception, with fall and spring after-school sessions twice a week and weekly two-hour sessions in the summer. OGA expects to be in 20 local elementary schools, three middle schools and six city centers this fall. Anyone wanting to coach in the program can email Julian Ramirez at julian@chattanoogafc.com.
