Deer firearms season: Through Jan. 6 in Tennessee, 2 antlerless per day in Unit A, 1 in Units B & D, 1 antlered per day, 2 per license year; through Jan. 13 in Georgia, season limit of 10 anterless & 2 antlered.

Remaining dove hunting seasons: Through Jan. 15 in Georgia; Dec. 8-Jan. 15 in Tennessee; half-hour before sunrise till sunset; daily limit 15 per hunter, not counting collared doves.

Rapid Learning intro to kayak & skills practice: Tuesday & Jan. 8, 7-8 or 8-9 p.m., Hulsey Wellness Center at Southern Adventist University; family-friendly for ages 8-up; $75 for individual year's membership, $125 for family; first-timers free; equipment provided, reservations not required. Wauhatchie Trail Race: Dec. 19, 9:30 a.m., 6.7 miles on dirt/gravel roads & trails on lower slopes of Lookout Mountain from nature center; handicapped by age & gender, beginning with 80-older females at 9:30 & going through 10:15 start for 25-29 males; $10 through midnight Dec. 13 at racectc.org; then $15. Wild Trails 200 Mile Club: Encourages improved fitness; cover 200 miles in three months under one's own power, whether by running, biking, swimming, paddling, walking or other aerobic activities. Anyone interested can start at any time by registering at wildtrails.org/200-mile-club and recording his or her progress there. Getting to 200 makes one a member, and the membership card secures discounts at a variety of places. Club activities include a campout, barbecue and 15k/5k trail races every three months at Lula Lake Land Trust.
