Jamie Hartman vaulted from 10th place to victory Monday in the 10-man final round of the Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Lake Guntersville. The New York native who now lives in Arkansas started Friday with a 14-pound-13-ounce bag of bass - good for 46th place - but wound up with 79-10 for four days, capped by a 23-15 haul Monday for his first win in the series and $100,000. Practice last Tuesday was Hartman's first time to see the northeastern Alabama lake. Chris Zaldain from Texas and Matt Arey from North Carolina were second and third in the Scottsboro-based event with 79-4 totals, winning $25,000 and $20,000. Brandon Lester of Fayetteville, Tennessee, got $15,000 for his ninth-place 72-0.

Golf

* Beck Burnette of Blairsville, Georgia, tied for sixth with an even-par 71 and Carter Pendley of Dalton finished in a nine-way share of ninth at 72 in U.S. Junior Amateur sectional qualifying Monday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Four spots and two alternate positions to the national tournament were awarded, led by Suwanee's Takafumi Shimoji, Johns Creek's Deven Patel and Dawsonville's Andrew Hughes with 69s. Burnette officially was seventh after a playoff for the second alternate spot.
