CSAS leads TSSAA Class A all-state team

When the Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its Class A all-state basketball teams, it was fitting that Arts & Sciences had more players than any other area school. CSAS was one of only two schools in the state to have both basketball programs qualify for the Class A state tournaments and Wednesday had three players named all-state.

Kayla Kelly and Alexis Anderson were named to the Class A girls' team and Alex Stallion made the boys' list. Seniors Kelly and Anderson helped the Lady Patriots qualify for the state tournament for the first time in program history, Kelly averaging 15 points, 7 rebounds and Anderson averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists. Those two players both finished their careers with more than 1,000 points scored.

Only a junior, Stallion led the Patriots to the state semifinals, averaging 18 points, 4 assists and 3.5 steals.

Marion County also had multiple players make the Class A all-state teams, with senior Cody Henegar and junior Keta Robinette. Henegar, a 6-foot-8 UNC Greensboro signee, averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds in helping the Warriors win the District 6-A tournament. Robinette, a junior, led the area with a 21.3 point per game average and also averaged 8.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4 steals.

Also on the Class A boys' team was Grace Academy senior guard Brandon Herman, a Mr. Basketball finalist who averaged 27 points and led his team to the state championship game, as well as South Pittsburg post Jiajuan Fennell, who averaged 21.3 points and 12 rebounds for the Pirates, who won the District 6-A regular season title.
