Notre Dame High School senior golfer David Weeks has committed to play next year for Jacksonville State University.

The Alabama school was one of several colleges recruiting Weeks, according to Notre Dame coach Jeff Fisher.

Weeks finished third individually in the Tennessee Class A/AA state tournament the past two years, and his closing 69 in this year's event at the Willowbrook club in Manchester sparked the Irish's rally to the team championship.

"He had right at a 72 average this year, and that would've been less but he didn't have a good Preview tournament," Fisher said. "At the end of the year he had a 70 in the City Prep, a 70 in the district, a 70 in the region and a 74 and a 69 in the state."

The City Prep was at the tough Bear Trace at Harrison Bay course, and the district was at Willowbrook, followed by the region event at Cookeville Country Club.

"David is real, real consistent, and he's one of the best leaders I've had in a young time," Fisher said. "He's just a really nice kid, and he works well with the young kids. They like playing with him. He kind of mentors them."

Weeks was voted captain after his junior season with the Irish.
