Kelsey Nunley named to All-America softball team

Soddy-Daisy High School pitcher Kelsey Nunley has been named to the 2012 MaxPreps All-America softball first team. The Kentucky signee previously was selected for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region first team and NFCA All-America third team. Nunley was the Times Free Press player of the year for the Chattanooga area after leading the Lady Trojans to the Class AAA state championship. She went 36-4 with 31 shutouts, 12 no-hitters, a 0.45 earned run average and 401 strikeouts in 246 innings in her senior season.

• University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball players Ninjja Suetsugu and Vivian Morimoto went 2-for-3 and 1-for-3 in a 4-1 loss to Puerto Rico in the fifth-place game Monday of the World Cup of Softball at Oklahoma City. They wound up batting .357 and .333 in the tournament, Suetsugu with a team-high four runs and Morimoto with a homer. UTC's Nicole Osterman played for Puerto Rico, which avenged a pool-play loss with Monday's victory. The United States won the event with a 7-0 record.

Football

• UTC junior defensive back Chaz Moore has been named to the College Football Performance Awards All-Purpose/Kickoff Returner Award Watch List. He joins linebacker Wes Dothard, defensive back D.J. Key, tight end Faysal Shafaat and defensive end Josh Williams as Mocs on CFPA watch lists. The Memphis resident had 18 returns for 468 yards in 2011, that 26-yard average ranking fifth in the Southern Conference.
