Taylor Moran, a junior who transferred after her freshman year from Heritage to Silverdale Baptist Academy, has accepted a softball scholarship offer from Lee University coach Emily Russell. "I like that it's a Christian-based school so I can strengthen my relationship with Him," Moran said. "But there's also something about Coach Russell that caught my attention. She used to be a pitcher who also played in the field and hit. I don't want to just pitch and then sit the bench. She understands that." Moran, a pitcher since she was 9, was bothered by an inflamed rotator cuff and bicep tendonitis right before her ninth-grade year. Last year for Silverdale she had a 4-2 pitching record with an ERA a little higher than 2.00, and primarily played shortstop when not pitching and made one error. She also batted .403 and led the Lady Seahawks in doubles and RBIs. "She's a great kid, too," SBA coach Tim Couch said. "It was impressive how she came in and took over leadership responsibilities. She's a natural leader. People gravitate to her. She's been a blessing in more ways than one with her attitude and leadership." Moran batted around .400 and pitched and played third base for her summer team, the Chattanooga Force '97, which in the fall clinched a berth in next year's Amateur Softball Association 18-under A national tournament. "Her attitude is her best asset, and she works hard," Force coach Dale Jones said. "She probably has the best knuckleball I've ever seen." Moran is also an honor student with an A average and is considering majoring in sports medicine.
