Ooltewah senior Elizabeth Novelli plans to sign softball scholarship papers at her school Monday with Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Novelli said she visited the campus in Athens a couple of weeks ago and got to work out with the team. She plans to major in chemistry.

"I love the campus, absolutely love it," Novelli said. "To have the opportunity to play softball and go to a place that offers what I want to study and the place looks like it does, I'm really excited."

Novelli, who played summer ball for the Chattanooga Force '97, is a pitcher and first baseman.

"Coach [Toby] Brooks told me I'd probably be playing a lot of first base," Novelli said, "but he wants me to continue pitching and see where it takes me."

Jon Massey is in his first season coaching the Lady Owls, who so far have been allowed only to take part in conditioning drills. The first day the TSSAA permits organized practices is Monday.

"She comes from a great family and I know she works hard," Massey said. "I think she's got a chance to be pretty good. She hasn't missed a workout. She's doing her part."
