McCallie's comeback bid falls short on road

NASHVILLE - McCallie spotted Brentwood Academy 23 points, then roared back to get within eight before falling 37-29 to the 2015 state champions in the Division II-AA quarterfinals Friday night.

The Eagles (9-2) led 23-0 late in the second quarter on two Jeremiah Oatsvall touchdown passes, a scoring run and a field goal. McCallie (7-5) scored before halftime on Shawn McColley's 22-yard scoring run, and the Eagles owned a 23-7 lead at the break.

McCallie quarterback Robert Riddle threw three second-half touchdown passes to get the Blue Tornado within eight points twice.

His 4-yard toss to Kendall Watson with 1:34 to play cut the lead to its final margin, and the onside kick attempt was recovered by the Eagles, who were able to run out the clock.

Oatsvall threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 51 yards and a score. Riddle was 31-of-51 passing for 280 yards, and he threw three interceptions.

Watson, Jay Gibson and Shawn McColley had eight catches each, and McColley gained 122 yards on 23 carries.

Brentwood Academy advances to face Baylor, which beat Memphis University School 16-12 on Friday.
