Basketball coaches Jim Case, Mike Duffie resign at Dalton High School

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton High School principal Steve Bartoo announced Thursday night in a news release that the school's varsity basketball coaches, Jim Case and Mike Duffie, have resigned.

Case, who coached the girls, was 18-33 in two seasons after coming over from Southeast Whitfield. He was previously a longtime assistant coach for Dalton's boys. The Lady Catamounts have not posted a winning season since going 21-8 in 2012-13, when current athletic director Jeff McKinney was leading the team.

"I know Jim worked hard," Bartoo said in the release, "and I appreciate the time and energy he gave to the girls and the team over the last two years."

Duffie had been the boys' coach for 12 seasons and has averaged 19 wins the past six. But the Catamounts last made a state tournament in 2014-15, when they finished 21-5. They went 19-8 this past season, with their season finishing in the Region 6-AAAAAA tournament.

"Mike has put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into our basketball program," Bartoo said. "I appreciate his commitment over the last 12 years."

Bartoo said the search for new coaches will begin immediately, and Case and Duffie will remain teachers at the school.
