CALHOUN, Ga. - With two state-top-10 teams, first place in the region on the line and another chapter in one of the most fierce prep baseball rivalries in Georgia, Tuesday night was predictably important in Calhoun with Ringgold in town.

The visiting Tigers scored four runs in the first three innings and rode a strong pitching performance from senior left-hander Holden Tucker for a 6-2 Region 6-AAA win. Completing a season sweep of the Yellow Jackets, Ringgold (17-4, 9-0) is on a 32-game region win streak and now has a three-game lead on the field with eight league games remaining.

"That's huge," Ringgold coach Brent Tucker said. "We can't let up. Most of these guys have been through it, and they understand it. We had a couple of freshmen and sophomores in the lineup tonight, and those seniors are leading them. Everybody is starting to understand their roles this time of the year. We picked the right time of the year to start doing that."

Daulton Schley had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Brayden Broome was 3-for-4, two of the hits doubles, and three runs scored, while Sam Mills knocked in three runs.

Holden Tucker allowed two runs and two hits while striking out 12 over six innings to improve to 7-0 for the season. He worked through a problematic third inning, which included a leadoff walk, Parker Lester's double, an error and RBI groundouts from Ben King and Matthew Williams that cut the Ringgold lead to 4-2.

"He had some good stuff tonight," Coach Tucker said of his pitcher. "His fastball was running and he competed like he usually does. His pitch count was up in the fourth, but in the fifth and sixth he kind of settled in and got through that well."

After his team added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth on Mills' run-scoring double and a wild pitch, Holden got through the sixth on one hit before Wyatt Tennant worked a scoreless seventh to seal the win over the Jackets (14-4, 7-2).
