High school roundup: Ridgeland's last-inning rally nets softball tourney win in Dalton

Ridgeland rallied for eight runs in the fifth inning Friday to defeat Pepperell at the Dalton Lady Cat Classic at Heritage Point Park.

The Lady Panthers (3-2) trailed 5-0 entering what turned out to be the game's final inning due to time constraints. They sent 11 batters to the plate, with Jenna Morgan getting the scoring started with a one-out RBI single. After Cordasia Watkins made it 5-2 with a run-scoring single, the Lady Dragons committed an error to bring home another run.

Makayla Pope was hit by a pitch to make it a one-run game, and Bryanna Goldsmith followed with a two-run double for the tying and eventual winning runs. Morgan, Watkins and Elly Barnes each had two hits for Ridgeland.

Also at the Lady Cat Classic:

Gordon Lee 13, Model 0: After a season-opening loss to Northwest Whitfield, the Lady Trojans got in the win column as Addison Sturdivant went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored and Allie Farrow drove in three with a pair of doubles among her three hits.

Woodland-Bartow 6, Gordon Lee 2: A five-run fourth inning, kept alive by a two-out, two-run error, lifted Woodland past the 2019 Class A public champion. Emma Minghini was 3-for-3 and Allie Farrow had two RBIs for the Lady Trojans (1-2).

Dade County 12, Southeast Whitfield 0: Michaela Massey was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Emma Heard drove in three runs to back the three-hit pitching of Kami Counts.

Chattooga 10, Southeast 4: Ally Croy had two hits and three RBIs, while Ramsey Elrod was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Katie Williams 2-for-4 with two runs and Kayleigh Byars drove in two runs for the Lady Indians (3-0). Southeast's Maliyah Williams was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

VOLLEYBALL (Thursday results)

Heritage 2, Gilmer 1: Lauren Francis led the Lady Generals, who prevailed with a 15-11 third set, with 13 kills, 13 assists and six digs, while Avery Phillips had 17 assists, Anna Wilks 12 digs and Kallie Carter six kills and four blocks.

Heritage 2, Christian Heritage 0: Lauren Francis had eight kills, 13 assists and 13 digs, while Lauren Mock added five kills and Aaliyah Rodgers four kills and four digs for the winners.

Ringgold 2, Dade County 0: Jordan Roden had three kills and four blocks, Bailey Davis 12 digs and Logan Flint three kills and five digs for the Lady Wolverines in the loss.

Northwest 2, Dade County 0: Delaynee Davis had 11 digs and Logan Flint seven kills and two blocks for Dade.

GOLF

On Thursday, Ensworth won the boys' and girls' matches at the Sewanee Golf Course, the boys finishing ahead of McCallie with 288 total strokes to 310, with Chattanooga Christian School third at 393. On the girls' side, GPS, led by Hannah Kate Newman's 91, totaled a 186 and was 28 strokes behind the winners, with CCS third at 190.
