Prep Players Spotlight: Five area high school athletes who stood out with recent performances

The Prep Players Spotlight is a weekly feature of the Times Free Press that highlights five area high school athletes whose performances since the previous Thursday stood out.

Luke Burrows, Polk County

The fourth-year starter for the basketball Wildcats continued his standout season by scoring 31 points - including five 3-pointers - and securing 10 rebounds in Friday's win at Meigs County. He also surpassed 1,500 career points in the victory for Class AA Polk County, which has impressed as a team this season.

Kate Ford, Notre Dame

Ford was ferocious on her home basketball court during a 57-31 win against Chattanooga Christian on Tuesday as she surged past the Lady Fighting Irish's all-time scoring record held by Alicia Ransom. The senior leader was 7-for-9 from 3-point range and scored 27 points against the Lady Chargers, and now she is closing in on 1,700 career points.

Griffin Lee, Notre Dame

The junior bowler helped the Fighting Irish win the TSSAA Division II state championship Saturday in Smyrna. In the title win over Christian Brothers, Lee finished his third and final game with a season-high pinfall of 236. He knocked over 668 pins in the final to help Notre Dame set a pinfall record for the program.

Anna Muhonen, Bradley Central

After missing last year's run to the Class AAA girls' basketball state championship due to injury, the 6-foot-2 junior's play in the low post has helped the Bearettes succeed this season. In Thursday's 59-55 overtime win at Meigs County, she shot 13-of-16 from the field while scoring 30 points, including four of the No. 1 Bearettes' five in OT.

Savannah Washington, Red Bank

The flashy sophomore point guard came up big in a 56-48 home win over Signal Mountain on Tuesday, when the Lady Lions scored 26 points in the fourth quarter. Washington's defensive prowess proved vital as she made nine steals, and she also scored 15 points to help her team move closer to a regular-season district title.
