Nationally ranked Ensworth beats Baylor in girls' state semifinals

NASHVILLE - The Baylor girls' basketball team's season ended with a 66-29 loss to Ensworth in the TSSAA Division II-AA state semifinals Friday at Lipscomb University.

Dontavia Waggoner had 20 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead Ensworth (27-0), which is the state's top-ranked team in DII-AA and is ranked 10th in the nation by MaxPreps.com. Eighth-grader Jaloni Cambridge also helped the Lady Tigers to a 15-0 lead and finished with nine points and five steals, while Kamil Collier added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Freshman point guard Bella White led Baylor (24-6) with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, and junior Cadashia Collins scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter.

Ensworth advanced to Saturday's 6 p.m. EST title game against Brentwood Academy (22-8), which won 60-38 in the other semifinal against Briarcrest Christian (25-6).

Briarcrest's boys will play for a DII-AA basketball title after winning 61-41 in a Friday semifinal against Baylor (16-10). The Saints (25-5) will face Knoxville Catholic (24-4) - a 75-60 semifinal winner against Christian Brothers (19-11) - with Saturday's title game set for 8:30 p.m. EST.
