1. A total of 26 Chattanooga-area teams qualified for the playoffs across the TSSAA's nine classifications. Of that total, 10 will host first-round games this Friday, with five of those - all from the public school division - having won their region championship.

2. There are five rounds of playoffs for the six public-school classifications, four in Division II-AA and three for Division II-AAA. The state championship games for all nine of the state's classes will be held at Tennessee Tech University on December 3-5.

3. McCallie won last year's Division II-AAA state title, its first since 2001, while Meigs County finished runner-up in Class 2A last season. Both of those teams are back in their respective classification's postseason and are among the favorites to contend once again. The Tigers finished the regular season 10-0 (their seniors finished their four-year career with a 39-1 regular-season record) and ranked No. 2, while the Blue Tornado is 6-3 overall, with one of those losses coming to an out-of-state opponent and another being a three-point defeat to top-ranked Brentwood Academy.

4. No Chattanooga-area public school has gotten past the semifinal round in any classification above 2A since Red Bank won the 5A title in 2000. Since then Red Bank (3A), Ooltewah (6A) and Rhea County (5A) have all reached the semifinals, with the Lions being the most recent to advance that far in 2017, but not advancing further. Five area teams - Marion County (2014-16), Signal Mountain (2010), South Pittsburg (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013), Tyner (2017) and Whitwell (2018) - have played for championships in 1A or 2A but none in the mid- or large-sized classifications.

5. A total of 28 teams with losing records - including winless Hancock County in 1A - qualified for the playoffs in the nine classes. Hancock County is in a four-team region which means al teams in that league automatically qualify for the postseason.
