Jack Brock drained a 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds to lift Northwest Whitfield to a 61-58 nonregion rivalry win over Dalton on Saturday in Tunnel Hill.
The Bruins (7-3) rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half, led by Brock, who had nine of his team-high 18 points in the final quarter. Payton Baker, who had 14 points, found Brock in the right corner for the winning shot as time wound down. Ray Morrison added 13 for Northwest.
"We graduated a lot last year and we have only played 10 games, so we're still finding our groove, but this helped a lot," Northwest coach Ryan Richards said. "This makes it three wins in a row, and the kids are starting to get it."
Dalton (5-4) was led by Grayson Boyd, who had 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter, while Ashton Blackwell chipped in 14 points. The Catamounts played without star Franklin Almonte, who has per-game averages of 21 points and 15 rebounds.
LaFayette 89, Ridgeland 32: Aidan Hadaway set the Ramblers' single-game scoring record with 44 points, breaking Jon Morgan's mark of 43, and he also had 12 rebounds in the win. DeCameron Porter added 15 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots for LaFayette, which remained undefeated through six games.
North Murray 61, Southeast Whitfield 52: The Mountaineers earned their third consecutive victory after a six-game losing streak to start the season. Ty Kendrick scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for North Murray; Seth Griffin, Carter Reynolds and JaNyious Ross each added 11. Victor Arrellin and Cal Rich led Southeast with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
McMinn County 66, Meigs County 39: The Cherokees (7-5) earned their fourth victory in the past five games as Ty Runyan had an all-around performance with eight points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals on New Year's Eve. Hayden Frank led McMinn County with 16 points and added eight rebounds, and Tucker Monroe (12 points) and Davion Evans (eight points, five assists) also contributed in the victory.
Heritage went 5-0 to win the Murray County Invitational Duals on Saturday in Chatsworth. The Generals defeated Murray County 54-27, Ringgold 54-21, Model 46-31 and Gordon Lee 54-27 before beating North Murray 57-24 in the championship match.
Tate Thomas (106 pounds) and Zach Brown (220) each went 5-0 with five pins to lead the effort, with Garrett Pennington (145) also going 5-0 with four pins, Victor Johnson (126) 5-0 with three pins and Cayman Hughey (132) 5-0 with two pins. Braedon Oliver (285) won four of his five bouts with three pins.
