Ooltewah High School has named Shannon Williams as its new head football coach.

Williams, who spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Red Bank High, previously worked as Ooltewah's head coach from 2010-2012, compiling a 21-14 overall record that included two playoff appearances.

"To have the opportunity to hold this job for a second time is truly and honor," Williams said. "I have a special love for Ooltewah High School and the Ooltewah community. I am very excited to get to work, get to know everybody, and start planning, and developing our players, for the 2021 season."

The Owls advanced to Class 5A quarterfinals in 2012 and the second round in 2011, both times losing to the eventual state runner-up. Also during his previous stint, the program produced 10 players who signed college scholarships.

During his time as Red Bank's offensive coordinator, the Lions went 20-3 overall, reaching the Class 3A quarterfinals in 2019 and semifinals last season. The offense averaged 30.9 points per game and more than 320 total yards during that time. Four Lions offensive players earned all-state honors under Williams.

"Coach Williams has been a tremendous asset for us as offensive coordinator and overseeing our line," Red Bank coach Chris Brown said. "We appreciate everything he did to make our program better here and wish him nothing but the best at Ooltewah."

Williams stepped down at Ooltewah after the 2012 season to take an assistant's position at Walton High in Defuniak Springs, Florida, then spent years working in private business. He has worked as an assistant at UT-Chattanooga - his alma mater - as well as Division II University of Arkansas at Monticello and LaFayette High.

"He brings with him a record of success and a passion for taking Ooltewah to the next level," said school principal Angela Cass. "We believe his vision and goals closely align with those of the school and we are excited for the days ahead."
