Prep roundup: Heritage posts pair of shutouts to sweep opening series of region play

Heritage used big performances at the plate by Dylan Bryan and Cannon Stafford, plus 10 shutout innings from pitchers Cade Kiniry and Landen Skeen to beat Southeast Whitfield 10-0 and 14-0 on Friday, with the Generals completing a sweep of the opening series in their GHSA Region 7-AAAA baseball schedule.

Kiniry allowed two hits and struck out seven in the first game Friday, with Skeen pitching a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts in game two. Bryan had two hits in game one and four in game two to go with two RBIs and three runs scored, with Stafford going a combined 5-for-6 with five RBIs for the Generals (9-2, 3-0).

C.J. Robertson had a three-run home run in game one, with Kiniry adding two hits and driving in three in game two.

Gordon Lee 19-14, Drew Charter 0-0: The Trojans (10-1), winners of nine consecutive games, completed the three-game Region 6-A public school sweep, needing only 10 innings to do so. Friday's games went three and four innings, respectively, with Gordon Lee getting three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored from Brody Cobb in the first game. Cade Peterson added two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored in game one, with Tanner Wilson pitching a no-hitter with eight strikeouts in game two. Nate Dunfee drove in three runs on two hits, with Bo Rhudy, Holt Roberts and Blake Rodgers adding two RBIs each.

Gordon Lee 14, Sonoraville 4: In a Thursday night game, the Trojans scored seven runs in the sixth inning to put the nonregion win away. Cobb and Peterson each homered and drove in three runs, with Griff Collins, Dunfee and Rodgers adding two RBIs each.

Northwest Whitfield 4, Dalton 0: Two Bruins combined for a no-hitter as Keaton McQuaig pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out nine batters and walking five, with Aiden Hosford getting the final out. Cade Fisher was 2-for-3, with McQuaig, Fischer Lloyd and Gavin Morgan each driving in a run for Northwest (9-2).

Blessed Trinity 5-6, Calhoun 0-1: The Titans (8-5, 2-1 in Region 7-AAAAAA), after losing the series opener to the Yellow Jackets (5-4, 1-2) on Wednesday, used four hits and five RBIs from D.J. Radtke to get the sweep Friday. Jake Lankie allowed five hits and fanned four in 5 2/3 scoreless innings in game one, with reliever Evan O'Neill getting the win in game two with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit pitching in game two. Andon Lewis and Christopher Lewis each had two hits in game one for Calhoun, with Dante Morton going 2-for-4 in game two.

Sonoraville 11, Dade County 1: Tanner Folds allowed three hits and struck out five in the five-inning complete game, with Zach Lyles belting a two-run homer, Cole Gross adding two hits and two RBIs, and Cole Godfrey two RBIs for the Phoenix (5-4).
