The Silverdale Baptist Academy baseball team clinched the second state tournament berth in program history with a 7-3 home win Saturday against Grace Christian Academy, with the Seahawks taking the rubber match in a best-of-three series for the Division II-A East Region championship.
Cameron Mullins hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and Brett Rogers (2-for-3, two runs, two RBIs, two stolen bases) had a two-run triple an inning later to help build a seven-run lead. That was more than enough for Brody Lamb, who pitched six innings and allowed two runs.
Silverdale is 31-3-1 overall since Lance Rorex was hired as coach two years ago.
Signal Mountain 7, Central 6: Hunter Davis had four hits and helped spark a four-run bottom of the seventh in which Braden Casner's two-run single was the winning hit.
Hixson 6, Red Bank 1: Corey Satterfield drove in three runs, and Jacob Tobias struck out seven batters in five scoreless innings for the Wildcats.
Sale Creek 5, Copper Basin 0: Camden Penny drove in three runs, and Jakob Elrod fanned 11 batters while allowing one hit in five innings for the Panthers, whose 11 stolen bases included three each from Spencer Cates and Braden Penny.
McMinn County 11, Cleveland 3: Will Grimmett had three hits and drove in three runs atop the lineup for McMinn County, which advances to Monday's District 5-AAA championship game Bradley Central.
Baylor 2-10 Combine Academy 8-0: The Goats scored three runs in the fifth and sixth to pull away for the win against Baylor, but Hunter Herndon was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss. In the Red Raiders' win, Jay Dill and Cooper Kinney hit two-run homers and Patrick Johnson struck out nine in five innings.
Sequatchie County 14, Cumberland County 0: Griffin Hall was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored four runs, and Barron Cribbs also had three hits and scored three times while throwing five scoreless innings for the win.
Bradley Central 6, East Hamilton 1: Ashton Simmons singled three times and pitched a complete game without allowing an earned run, and Dakota Peace added two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Bears. East Hamilton's Khaleel Marshall and Chase Roberts each had two hits.
Hixson 12, Central 0: Zoie Sullivan homered and drove in three runs while tossing four scoreless innings. Ryleigh Quarles also drove in three and had two hits.
Sequatchie County 17, Marion County 1: Jesyca Dennis (three hits, three RBIs), Addy Edgmon (three RBIs, three stolen bases) and Ella Edgmon (three RBIs) starred for the Lady Indians. Sequatchie's Megan Hall and Marion's Sara Muir homered.
Red Bank 10, Hixson 0: Bailee Phillips tossed a six-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and she also doubled and hit her ninth home run of the season. Whitley Gann and Sydney Hoppe had three hits each, and Hailey Hanks doubled twice.
Hixson 15, Tyner 3: Zoie Sullivan had two home runs, Ryleigh Quarles hit a grand slam and Meghan Kernea also homered. Diana Elsea added three hits for the winners.
Signal Mountain 11, Hixson 0: The Lady Eagles did all their scoring in the fourth and fifth innings.
Silverdale Baptist 6, Lakeway Christian 3: Bree Sexton hit a three-run walk-off homer for the Lady Seahawks, Katie Willoughby struck out 13 and Bentlee Stiner had three hits and a triple.
Soddy-Daisy 6, Walker Valley 1: Courtney Sneed doubled twice and drove in four runs, Jenna Sims hit a two-run homer and Taylor Lloyd struck out eight in a complete game.
East Hamilton 11, Cleveland 0: Ashlynn Watkins hit a grand slam, and Grace Hixson, Emma Sam Reed and Syerra Rogers also homered for the Lady Hurricanes. Rogers fanned eight batters and allowed one hit in five innings.
Walker Valley 6, Ooltewah 2: Sierra Brown homered and drove in three runs, and Michelle Benson added a pair of hits to back Hailey Leslie, who struck out 11.
Baylor's star freshmen tandem of Ensley Collins and Helen Guerry earned a spot in the Division II-AA state tournament by winning the East Region doubles crown. Collins and Guerry defeated GPS duo Caroline Clark and Mary Katherine Johnson, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5, in the final.
McCallie's Andreas Sillaste defeated teammate Colin Tuttle, 6-4, 6-3, to win the DII-AA East singles final, and the Blue Tornado's Gabe Getz and Will Leathers won the doubles title, 6-2, 6-3, over Baylor's Manuel Archurra and Nic Cooper. All finalists in singles and doubles advance to the state tournament this month.
