Prep roundup: Chattanooga Christian baseball team rallies for nine-inning win at Boyd Buchanan

Chattanooga Christian School freshman Isaiah McKenzie came through in the clutch Saturday to lead the Chargers to a 4-3 comeback win in extra innings at Boyd Buchanan.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, McKenzie tied the game at 3 with a line-drive single to left field that scored two runs. Fellow freshman Keegan Nieckula doubled to start the ninth inning, then scored what proved to be the winning run on McKenzie's single down the third-base line.

Cooper Kay was the winner on the mound after allowing three runs in 8 2/3 innings in which he threw 120 pitches. Connor Tyler recorded the final out for the save.

Boyd Buchanan's Jacob Pickett and Brodie Johnston combined for 20 strikeouts, with Pickett notching a dozen in six innings. Johnston went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Brodie Lowe had three hits for the Buccaneers.

Silverdale Baptist 3, Hewitt-Trussville 3: After trailing 3-0, Cameron Mullins led the Seahawks back as he drove in three runs, including a two-run homer in the top of the fourth. Brett Rogers had three hits and Turner Jukins struck out seven batters in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for Silverdale, which played one extra inning against the Alabama program before the game ended in a tie.

Soddy-Daisy 5, Rhea County 3: Aaron Watson tossed a complete game for Soddy-Daisy, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters. Cameron Natalie had two hits and scored twice, and Anthony Florio had two RBIs for the winners.

SOFTBALL

GPS 4, Ooltewah 2: Ansley Blevins launched a two-run homer in the first inning to lead the way to victory.

Walker Valley 7, South Greene 2: Hannah Guffey had three hits for the Lady Mustangs, whose Sierra Brown and Madilyn Kidd each had two hits, with Brown driving in two runs and Kidd scoring twice. Winning pitcher Addy Girard did not walk a batter in five innings.

Silverdale Baptist 14, Buckhorn 9: Addison Keef homered and doubled for the Lady Sehawks, whose Amari Starling had three hits and four RBIs.
