McCallie junior right-hander Grayson Smith overcame a shaky first inning Saturday to pitch a complete game and lead the Blue Tornado to their fifth win in the past six contests.

After allowing two runs in the first, Smith settled down and struck out 10 batters in a 6-3 victory at Bearden in the Scott Dean Memorial Tournament.

McCallie's Nolan Sergeant had a tying two-run single in the third, and Austin Breedlove made it 3-all in the sixth on an infield single that scored Carter Hewitt, who had three walks (one intentional).

The Blue Tornado (14-7) took the lead for good in the seventh on Reece Jordan's RBI single to right field, and Hudson Calhoun added a two-run single. Calhoun and Sergeant each had two hits and a double.

Smith got six of his last seven outs via strikeouts against Bearden, which beat Bradley Central 6-3 in another tourney game.

Walker Valley 9, Hardin Valley Academy 7: Walker Valley senior Preston Hodges drove in a trio of runs and had three of the 13 hits by the Mustangs. Nate Curtis was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Landon Franklin doubled twice and Luke Smith's two hits included a double. Parker Minnix allowed a walk in 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the save.
