East Hamilton softball holds off late Walker Valley rally for 8-7 win

Monday's nondistrict softball game with Walker Valley seemed like a walk in the park for East Hamilton after scoring six runs in the third inning and carrying a 7-0 lead into the sixth, but the visitors made it interesting before falling 8-7.

The Lady Hurricanes (23-9) used a two-run single from Grace Hixson, an RBI double from Ashlynn Watkins and run-scoring singles from Henley Apps, Nikki Wasserstrom and Emma Reed to produce the big third inning.

However, the Lady Mustangs (23-14-1) chipped away with three runs in the sixth inning on Alyssa Davenport's RBI double and a two-run error and scored four in the seventh as Amy Benson, Addison Woodall and Karly Blackwell had run-scoring hits. East Hamilton's Watkins, though, secured the final out on a fly out to end the threat and the game.

Reese Knox was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, Apps was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run and Chicago native Dani Wasserstrom had two hits, an RBI and run scored to lead East Hamilton. Woodall was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, with Benson, Alyssa Davenport and Sierra Brown each adding two hits for Walker Valley.
