Weather postpones Spring Fling baseball and softball games Thursday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Due to the inclement weather lingering around all Spring Fling sites Thursday, and the forecast for more heavy rain and thunderstorms through the afternoon, TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress has announced that all baseball and softball games at the state tournaments have been postponed until Friday.

In Division II-AA baseball, McCallie was scheduled to face the winner of an elimination game between Knoxville Catholic and Lipscomb Academy, but that losers-bracket final was suspended in the sixth inning because of weather Wednesday night and will not resume until Friday morning.

Once that matchup is completed, McCallie will play the winner shortly afterward in the championship round of the double-elimination event, with the Blue Tornado needing only one win to clinch the state title.

In Division II-AA softball, Baylor and GPS were scheduled to play in the winners-bracket final at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, but that game has been postponed to Friday with the same start time. Similarly, Chattanooga Christian's game against Tipton-Rosemark in the losers bracket will be played at 11 a.m. on Friday, with the winner moving on to face the loser between Baylor and GPS in an elimination game.

In tennis, the state tournaments for singles and doubles were moved to indoor courts in the surrounding area and will be played as scheduled Thursday, with titles set to be decided Friday.

Boys' soccer championship games on Thursday - Boyd Buchanan versus Franklin Grace in the DII-A title game at 5 p.m. and Baylor versus Father Ryan in DII-AA at 7:30 - are expected to be played as scheduled on Field No. 1 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex unless there is lightning in the area.

In track and field, although there have been some interruptions due to weather, the Class AAA state meet is continuing Thursday.
