Jumbo Shrimp collect 14 hits as Lookouts lose 14th straight

Anfernee Seymour's grand slam to right-center field in the fifth inning highlighted Jacksonville's 14-hit attack as the Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts 10-5 Sunday afternoon before an announced crowd of 2,648 at AT&T Field.

The loss was the 14th straight for the Lookouts, bringing them to within one of matching the Southern League record set by the Columbus Astros in 1971. The Lookouts, who are 44-54 overall this season and 8-21 in the second half, will try to avoid the dubious history Monday night when they begin a five-game road series against the Birmingham Barons.

Chattanooga and Jacksonville were squared 2-2 through two innings, with a Mitch Nay sacrifice fly to right and an Alfredo Rodriguez RBI single to center providing the scoring for the Lookouts. Corey Bird's two-run home run to right in the third put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead for good at 4-2, and their five-run fifth highlighted by Seymour's blast put the game away.

The Lookouts allowed 37 runs during their four-game homestand against Jacksonville.

Trying to stop the slide for Chattanooga on Monday will be starting pitcher Alex Wood, the former University of Georgia standout and second-round selection of the Atlanta Braves. Wood went 16-3 with a 2.72 ERA two years ago with the Los Angeles Dodgers and went 9-7 last season before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds organization.

The 28-year-old left-hander has yet to play this season for the Reds due to back problems.
