The Chattanooga Football Club dominated Saturday night to earn its first victory of the National Independent Soccer Association fall season, 2-0 at Detroit City FC.
Chattanooga FC, which was coming off a 2-1 loss last weekend in the Detroit area against the Michigan Stars FC, outshot its hosts 9-1 at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Michigan. It was the opening match of Detroit City's fall schedule.
Ian McGrath caused tremendous trouble for Detroit's defenders throughout the match and set up the first goal as he headed a booming kick from keeper Alec Reddington to Zeca Ferraz, whose own header then found Darwin Lom and was chipped in past the Detroit keeper for a 1-0 lead in the third minute.
Juan Hernandez nearly scored twice, with a beautiful curled shot at the upper right corner and a header in the 60th minute that was barely saved, and Ryan Marcano played solid defense for CFC.
Zeca provided the final margin when Nick Spielman sent a header off a corner kick to the left side of the 10-yard box for the CFC veteran to boot in during the 66th minute.
Coach Peter Fuller's team will wrap up its NISA fall regular season with matches against New Amsterdam (Aug. 29) and the New York Cosmos (Sept. 12) at Finley Stadium, which remains closed to the public.
