NASCAR has released a statement on its official website stating that its next two races, in Atlanta and Miami, have been postponed due to concerns with the coronavirus. This weekend's race had been the lone professional or collegiate sporting event still scheduled to take place after the NBA, NHL, PGA and NCAA either canceled or postponed all events by Thursday. On Friday morning, Augusta National Golf Club announced it was postponing The Masters as well.

The short post on the website, quoting a NASCAR official, states, "NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events."
