The Chattanooga Red Wolves have gone from defending a position atop the USL League One standings to trying to return there.

They lost 1-0 to the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night in Virginia, the third time in the past four matches that Chattanooga has failed to generate a point in the standings.

The Red Wolves (10-4-10) have 40 points, trailing by one point first-place Union Omaha (11-3-8), which cruised to a 4-0 win Friday night at South Georgia Tormenta FC. Chattanooga is five points ahead of the third-place Greenville Triumph SC (9-7-8), which gained ground with a 1-0 win Friday night against Fort Lauderdale CF.

The Red Wolves return to competition on Oct. 10 with a 3 p.m. match at North Carolina FC, then host Toronto FC II on Oct. 16 at CHI Memorial Stadium in East Ridge. Chattanooga will finish the regular season on the road with matches against Greenville and Forward Madison FC.

With the exception of Greenville, the reigning USL League One champion, all of those opponents are in the lower half of the 12-team soccer league's standings.
