Andres Hernandez scored a goal for the Chattanooga Red Wolves in the 74th minute, and Central Valley Fuego FC missed a late penalty kick as the visitors held on for a 1-0 victory late Wednesday night in Fresno, California.

The Red Wolves (7-9-4 overall, 7-8-4 USL League One) improved to 2-0-2 in their past four matches and moved into a tie for fourth in the crowded league standings with three teams tied at 25 points and only five points separating third and ninth places. Central Valley dropped to 6-7-5 with its second straight loss and remained at 23 points.

The Red Wolves' next match is against the first-place Greenville Triumph (9-5-5, 32 points) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CHI Memorial Stadium in East Ridge. It's the last of three scheduled matches between Chattanooga and Greenville in the regular season, with the Red Wolves trying to avoid being swept after the Triumph won 1-0 on April 29 in South Carolina and by the same score on May 28 in East Ridge.
