Hodges ready for Rockies direction

Released by the Cleveland Indians over the weekend, Wes Hodges is in Chattanooga waiting for the Colorado Rockies to tell him when and where to report.

The former Baylor player had been on the Indians' 40-man roster but was removed from that list just prior to the trade deadline last weekend.

"They had accumulated a lot of prospects at the same positions," he said.

It wasn't long, though, before he was claimed by the Rockies.

"I'm excited about the opportunity. I know baseball is a business and things happen. I'm looking forward to being in the Rockies organization."

Early reports said Hodges had been assigned to Colorado's Class AAA team in Colorado Springs, but he said earlier today that he was waiting on a call.

Hodges played shortstop at Baylor and moved to third base at Georgia Tech. He was a third baseman in the Indians' farm system until this year when he moved to first base.
