Former Ridgeland and Central High School football coach Cortney Braswell is no longer facing theft charges, according to court records.

Braswell, who left Ridgeland earlier this year to take a job as a defensive quality control assistant coach at Louisville University, was indicted on May 29 by the Hamilton County grand jury on a felony theft charge for allegedly pocketing up to $2,500 from two semi-pro football teams that had paid to use the Central High School football field in January 2016 and December 2017.

He was later arrested on the charge on June 22 but maintained his innocence.

During a hearing Wednesday before Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman, the charge was dropped at the request of the district attorney's office, according to court records.

"Today has been a really good day," Braswell said as he was driving back to Louisville to attend football practice. "I just want this behind me."
