After losing a total of six players — four to the professional ranks — from last season, the Volunters have a season dress rehearsal against the Division II Greyhounds. Bowden and Turner give the Vols a solid 1-2 punch of experience and scoring as guards, and a lot is expected out of James in his initial season in the program. Fulkerson will lead an interior group still wondering if it will have the services of 7-foot-1 redshirt freshman Uros Plavsic, who has yet to receive a waiver from the NCAA that would make him immediately eligible after transferring from Arizona State.
Eastern New Mexico completely flipped its roster in the offseason, bringing in eight new players. Pullum is the mainstay after averaging 12.7 points per game last season, while Murphy shot nearly 39% from 3-point range and Sawyer averaged just more than seven points per game last season.
As the season goes along, it will be interesting to see just who steps into the "other" scorer roles behind Bowden and Turner. It likely won't be the same person each night, which could be good, but somebody will have to develop into a reliable third option as a consistent scorer. This will be the first opportunity for the Vols to start determining who that may be.
