The annual Sunbelt Bakery Ironman 70.3 in Chattanooga has been postponed, according to the event's official website.

In the news release, which was posted Monday afternoon, the event has been rescheduled from May 17 to Aug. 23.

The website included a statement from event organizers that read: "With the health and safety of our community being an utmost priority, and based on the direction and recommendations of public health agencies and local authorities in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Sunbelt Bakery IRONMAN 70.3 has been postponed.

"In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that the postponement may come as a disappointment but look forward to providing athletes with an exceptional race experience in the future."

All registered athletes of the 2020 Sunbelt Bakery IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga triathlon will receive an email with further information.
