After closing its doors on March 13 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chattanooga Theatre Center is launching its 2020 Summer Academy in an abbreviated format for students grades 4-12, according to a news release.

From July 6 through August 7, students will be able to learn more about the theatre arts in a variety of classes such as Acting the Script, Acting Fundamentals, Play Writing, Practice to Performance and Acting Shakespeare.

As a precaution against COVID-19, the program will feature "strict protocols" including only having half-day sessions and limiting classes to 10 students, with no interaction between classes.

Students and staff will also have daily temperature checks, must wear face coverings when in the building and are expected to wash and sanitize their hands at regular intervals, according to the release.

Prior registration is required, but the CTC said that payment will not be accepted until the first day of class as schedules are subject to change.

This program is a part of the center's first phase of reopening.
