MARCH VW sales up 41 percent

Volkswagen of America reported Thursday that March sales rose about 41 percent over a year ago with its clean diesel Jetta helping power the automaker's numbers.

VW sold 22,148 vehicles in the United States in the month, according to the company. Year to date, the carmaker's sales have risen 38.4 percent versus the same timeframe in 2009.

Mark Barnes, the company's chief operating officer, said both VW and its dealers are gearing up for greater growth as they prepare for more new product introductions in the months ahead.
