Bettye Irene Jackson Nichols, 85, of Lookout Valley, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at her residence.She was born in Chattanooga July 14, 1926 to the late Fred and Irene Sneed Jackson and was preceded in death by husband, Lewis; daughter, Susanne Nichols Van Scyoc; sister, Louise Jackson.Mrs. Nichols is survived by son-in-law, Jerold L. Van Scyoc; and grandson, Justin Lewis Van Scyoc, both of Marietta, Ga.She was educated in the Hamilton County schools and graduated from Central High School, class of 1944. She graduated from the Baroness Erlanger Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1947 and was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. She was employed as a RN at Dekalb County Hospital in Fort Payne, Ala., and later at the Florence Crittenton Home, Chattanooga. Mrs. Nichols was a charter member of Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church and a served as a very faithful member of the church.Bettye was indeed a friend to many people and her entire life was dedicated in service to others. We will all miss her dearly, but have wonderful memories of our times with her. She loved to cook for friends and family and her very special cookies and stockings at Christmas time will not be forgotten.The family will receive friends and relatives from 1-3 p.m. (CDT) Sunday, Nov. 6, at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne followed by a graveside funeral service conducted by Rev.
