William Gamble, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away at his home with his children by his side on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.He was a member of Chattanooga Church.William also was an U.S. Army Veteran stationed in Fairbanks Alaska, a member of the American Legion Post 95 and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Bessie Gamble; wife, Iva Mae Scott Gamble; son, James Hamlin; one sister, Elizabeth Walker; one brother, Charles Gamble.He is survived by four children, William L. (Linda) Gamble, of Rossville, Edward G. (Judith) Gamble, of Smyrna, Tenn., Paula (Dino) Xoinis, of Hixson and Sandra Ferrell, of Ringgold; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held on at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Pastor Morty Lloyd officiating.Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East with military honors. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason and Jeremy Gamble, Marty and Buddy Manus, Kon and Nick Xoinis.The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and on Wednesday up to the hour of service at the funeral home.The family would like to express a special thanks to his caregiver, Ann Barbour and to all the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for there compassionate care during this time.Arrangements are by Turner Funeral Home Inc., Highway 58 Chapel, 622-3171.
