Frances Elizabeth Knott-Janey Cowan left this earthly life Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, to be with her Lord, Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ in Heaven. Frances was one of five children born to the pioneer family of Jim and Mary Ella Knott, of Sewanee, Tenn. She has vivid memories of raising crops, farm animals, flowers, trees and learning homemaking skills of cooking, sewing, canning, milking, needlepoint and crafts. She followed this robust lifestyle with much enthusiasm all her life. In 1948, she married Ernest Janey and began a military lifestyle of living all over the USA and many foreign countries. Her daughter, Rebecca, was born in the Philippine Islands. They retired in the early 60's and began homemaking in Franklin County. Frances later married Charles "Bim" Cowan, of Cowan, Tenn. They enjoyed church, gardening and travel with the family. Frances is survived by children, Peggy Janey (Charles) Ridings, of Hixson, Tenn., William (Joy) Janey, of the Falls Mill Community, Tenn., John (Elaine) Janey, of Belvidere, Tenn., Becky Janey Pappas, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Cheryl Weddington (Brian) Ault, of Hixson, Tenn., the late David Janey, Laura Janey (Clay) Mullins, of Lexington, Miss., Bruce Janey, of Estill Springs, Tenn., the late Mark Janey, Matthew Janey, of Estill Springs, Tenn., Laura Janey Mullins, of Savannah, Ga., Amanda Walker Roggli, of Winchester, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zachary Ault, of Hixson, Tenn., Collin and Caitlin Mullins, of Lexington, Miss., Elizabeth and Emma Roggli, of Winchester, Tenn., and Evan Hoover, of Sewanee, Tenn.; siblings, the late Charles Knott, of Monteagle, Tenn., Roxanna Rice, of Columbus, Ohio, Margaret Knott Bahrs, of Mississippi, John and Johnnie Caldwell, of Flowery Branch, Ga. "Faith, family, friends - Feel the love" was Frances' motto. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (CST) in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with the Rev. Harry Green of McMinnville officiating. Burial will be at Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee, Tenn.
