Ruth Hensley

Ruth Collins Hensley, 88, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, on Signal Mountain.She was born Dec. 12, 1923 in Atlanta, and daughter to Milton Luther and Rebecca Mahan Collins. She attended West Georgia College and the University of Georgia where she graduated with her bachelor of science degree in sociology, and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was married for 57 years to Marble John Hensley, PE, until his death in 2005.She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Hensley Wise; her brother, Joseph Milton Collins; and twin sister, Frances Collins Osborne.She is survived by daughters, Carol Hensley Hastey and husband, Joe, of Greenwood Village, Colo., Kathlyn Hensley MacFarlane and husband, Terrance, of Marietta, Ga.; son, Marble John Hensley Jr. and wife, Michele, of Signal Mountain; son-in-law, Herbert D. Wise, of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandsons, Stephen Todd Hastey, Chattanooga, Joseph Collins Wise, Birmingham, Evan FitzTerrance MacFarlane, Marietta, Scott Tyler Hastey, Atlanta, James Penland Wise, Birmingham, Anton Hensley MacFarlane, Marietta, Jonathan Edward Hastey, Denver, Nathaniel Luke Hensley, Signal Mountain; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Kate Hastey, of Chattanooga, Will and Ellie Hastey, of Atlanta, Alice and Joseph Wise, of Birmingham; and many nieces and nephews.Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who devoted herself to her family, church and community. She lived in Chattanooga for 58 years and was an active member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church, EPC. She loved to garden and was actively involved in a number of Bible studies with friends and her church. She fondly remembered her summers spent growing up at the family farm in Fairmount, Ga., with her brother, sister and grandmother Mahan.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 8, 2012, at Brainerd Presbyterian Church, EPC with the Rev, Jonathan Schwartz officiating.Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with her husband Marble. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.The family asks that donations be made to Brainerd Presbyterian Church, EPC, 1624 Jenkins Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or a charity of one's choice.Condolences may be sent to www.heritagefh.com.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. today, Nov. 8, until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church.Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
