Jack Spicknall

SAVANNAHJohn "Jack" T. Spicknall died Tuesday, Nov. 6. 2012 in Atlanta at St. Josephs Hospital.He was born in Washington, D.C. June 10, 1927, son of Edith G. and John T. Spicknall. His early childhood was spent in Bethesda, Md., and then moved to Catonsville, Md. He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines after graduating from high school. After the war he attended Western Maryland College, (now McDaniel College), graduating in 1949. He then went to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with an MBA in marketing. He married Doris Virginia Hale of Wayne, Pa., whom he met at Western MD, in June 1952.He started his career in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1952. His two sons, John Thomas and Robert Hale were born there. He moved to New Jersey in 1957 and worked in New York and New Jersey as a marketing executive for the paper board packaging industry. He lived in Fords, N.J. for five years and Metuchen, N.J. for 30 years.In 1991 he retired and moved to Savannah, Ga., where he enjoyed life and golf at the Landings on Skidaway Island. He was a member of Methodist churches all his life and recently for 21 years at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and sang in the church choir. A memorial service will be held at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church on Monday, Nov. 12.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia "Jinny" H. Spicknall, of Savannah; two sons, J. Thomas and his wife Peg, of Dalton, Ga., Robert H. and his wife, Sandy, of Richmond, Va.; and his grandchildren, John Spicknall and his wife, Tricia, of Atlanta, Susan Spicknall, of Atlanta, Andy Spicknall, of Richmond, Va., Kathy Spicknall of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, the Bethesda Home for Boys, Savannah Ga., or the charity of your choice.
