GRUETLI-LAAGER Claude Douglas Birdwell, 63, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.He was born in Palmer on April 9, 1949 to Leonard and Willette Brewer Birdwell who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Lindell, Roger Dale and Don Birdwell.He is survived by his wife, Patsy Morrison Birdwell; daughters, Jessica (Willie) Blalock, Monteagle, Jill (David) Taylor, Manchester and Aretha (Aaron) Bowdoin, McMinnville; stepdaughter, Lana Casteel, Altamont; stepsons, Devin Combs, Gruetli-Laager and Derral (Debbie) Combs, Nashville; sisters, Pam (Sherrill) Meeks and Pat Ann Meeks; brothers, Tommy (Viva), David (Audrey) and Larry (Weedy) Birdwell; five grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Benji Goins officiating with burial to follow in Palmer Cemetery.Visitation: 2-10 p.m. Thursday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tenn. www.laynefuneralhome.com.
