LaRue Turbyfill

LaRue Betty Turbyfill, 87, in Ooltewah, died on Friday October 18, 2013. It was the evening of her 66th wedding anniversary.LaRue was born April 5, 1924 in Dayton, Md., on a farm in Howard county to Ida Irene and Hamilton Simpson. She was second-to-the-last of 11 siblings. At an early age she developed a love for crocheting. She made many exquisete and intricate pieces of needle work art.LaRue and Eddie were baptized Seventh-day Adventists in Baltimore, Md., and currently are members at McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church.She worked at Johns Hopkins University for about 20 years in the clerical department. She was committed to providing for Christian education and community outreach.In 2002 they moved to the milder climate of Collegedale. They enjoyed the warmth of the congregation at McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist church. They were filled spiritually by pastor Gettys' sermons and his wife Cynthia's Sabbath School classes and physically by the potlucks, especially on the weeks they celebrated birthdays.Her last days were spent meditating on Christ's second coming. Whenever pastors made visits she welcomed their prayers.She is survived by her husband of 66 years and the love of her life, Edward C. Turbyfill; also, one daughter, Donna Pottillo, of Collegedale. Donna has managed the eldercare of her parents and been active in local ministries after the loss of her husband in 2004. LaRue is also survived by one brother, Thomas Simpson, of Dayton, Md.; and one sister, Margaret Nicholson, of Damascus, Md.Her favorite expression was, "Keep looking up, Jesus is coming soon!"The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home at 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Processional to Chattanooga National Cemetery will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., officiated by pastor Don Gettys.Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
