Shirley Altenberg

Shirley Lee Kincaid Altenberg, 70, Chattanooga, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at home. She was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of Willard and Florence Kincaid. She graduated from Hononegah High School, Rockton, Ill., class of 1961. Shirley married William "Bill" Altenberg on Jan. 18, 1964, in Rockton, Ill. Shirley was self-employed as a pre-school educator and daycare provider. She studied early childhood development at Rock Valley College, Rockford, Ill., where she earned an associates of arts degree. She was a member of the Woodland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga. She was very active in the Silver Sneakers program at the Hamilton Family YMCA of Chattanooga. She had also been an active member of the Stateline Community Church of the Nazarene in Rockton, ll., where she served as a church secretary, a board member, and a Sunday School teacher. Shirley loved her Bible study group with Precept Ministries, her Sunday School class at Woodland Park Baptist Church, the Widows Ministry at Woodland Park Baptist, but most of all she love spoiling her granddaughter, Ruby. Survivors include her children, Jim (Kimberly) Altenberg, of Ooltewah; her granddaughter, Ruby Marie Altenberg, of Ooltewah; sister, Patricia Clark; sister, Diane (Joe) Sullivan; sister-in-law, Jane (Richard) Kincaid; sister-in-law, Margaret (John) Altenberg; brother-in-law, Robert (Judy) Altenberg; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Willard and Florence Kincaid; infant son, Brian; and two brothers, Willard Kincaid Jr. and Richard Kincaid. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stephen McCary and Faye Frazier, officiating.
