Gene Kolwyck

Melvin Eugene "Gene" Kolwyck, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga and North Georgia, Gene was a longtime girls and boys softball, baseball and basketball coach at East Lake Recreation Center. He retired from Chattanooga Glass Co. after 30 years and later retired from Temple Baptist Church after 29 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church for 55 years. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, J.H. and Blanche Kolwyck; sisters, Mattie Lou Farr, Emma Pardue and Edith Minnick; brothers, Raymond, Earl and Bert Kolwyck. Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Ruth Kolwyck; daughters, Karen Eason, Ringgold, Susan (Rodney) Burgess, Rossville and Eugenia (Randy) Patty, Lyerly, Ga.; son, Lamar (Peggy) Kolwyck, Ringgold; sisters, Betty Johnson and Bobbie Hudgins, both of East Ridge; six grandchildren, Michelle Clayton, Buck Parker, Jennifer Eason, Aspen Burgess, Cindy Tallent and Patrick Kolwyck; four great-grandchildren, Emma Parker, Jacob Clayton, Savannah Shepherd and Reagan Tallent; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. T.D. Burgess and Rev. Scott Young officiating. Burial will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with Jeff Woodard, Terrell Welborn, Gene Eason, Lamar Jones, Eddie Burgess, Roy Phipps, Chuck Lindsay and Rick Webb serving as pallbearers.
