MANCHESTER — Joseph Nicholas Dietzen, III (Nick), 83, son of Joseph Nicholas Dietzen Jr. and Adda Eliza Reiling Dietzen, both of South Pittsburg, died peacefully of congestive heart failure at his home at 6:01 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilhelmina Ann Dietzen Cowie and a sister, Katherine Rae Shortt. He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Anita Dietzen, of New York; a daughter, Joyce Louise Dietzen, of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Cowie, Jennifer Cowie, Katherine Cowie Enochs, Sarah Katherine Najjar, William Najjar, Jason Najjar, and Elizabeth Najjar; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Snodgrass, of Titusville, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick attended college at the University of the South (Sewanee) where he was inducted into the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Vanderbilt University, and Middle Tennessee State University where he graduated with a degree in Business (Accounting and Economics). In 1957, Nick married Anita Quandt and they settled in Huntsville, Alabama where their three children were born. He worked as an accountant for a chemical business and taught economics in high schools. Later he went to work as an accountant for Redstone Federal Credit Union and was transferred to Germany where he lived for over a decade. When he returned to the United States he joined his father in Joe Dietzen Contracting Company in Dickson, Tenn., where he was active in the construction of Goodlark Hospital in Dickson. After retirement, he returned to Manchester and enjoyed landscaping his yard – especially developing “English gardens.” Nick, like his Mother, always had a special dog for a constant companion and everyone knew “Sweetie Pie”! The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 704 Holly Avenue, South Pittsburg, TN 37080; or Burl Lee Hill & Patton Cemetery (GP & PACA), Attn: Bob Kellerman, P.O.
