Claudine Adkins

Claudine Mason (Dene) Adkins of Chattanooga and Rossville, Ga., passed at the age of 93. She was recovering from a stroke at the Collinsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation at the time of her death on Dec. 2, 2017. She was born in Blairsville, Georgia Feb. 1, 1924. She was the daughter of Claude and Inda Mason. She graduated from Blairsville High School, Valedictorian of her class. She then attended Lincoln Memorial University and Harrogate, Tennessee. Mrs. Adkins was married to Thomas E. Adkins Jan. 2, 1946. During WWII, she was employed at the FBI in Washington, D.C., and the B29 Bomber Plant in Marietta, Ga. Mrs. Adkins assisted her husband in Medical School by typing the study group notes and later helped in his office practice. She was the owner of The Singing Kettle Kitchen Shop in Rossville for several years. Mrs. Adkins was long-standing member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Child Development Center, Missionary Ridge Garden Club, and the Walker, Catoosa, Dade County Medical Auxiliary Society. Mrs. Adkins was longtime, faithful member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga and a friend to so many people. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Adkins, Father, Claud Mason, Mother, Inda Mason Horne, one brother Jim Mason, two siblings who died in infancy and one son Phil Adkins. She was survived by sons, Tom (Myra) Adkins of Hixson, Steve (Marcia) Adkins of Fort Payne, Ala.; grandchildren, Tommy (Kim) Adkins of New Orleans, La., Mary Adkins of Chattanooga, Christy (Chris) Daniel of Hixson, Jennifer (Mike) Browning of Madison, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Harper and Avery Daniel of Hixson, Cadewyn Browning of Madison, Ala.; sisters-in- law, Lois Mason, Betty (Richard) Arnold, Eula Waddell, Avilene Peterman and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends December 6, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church followed by funeral services at noon. Funeral services have been entrusted to Lane Funeral Home – South Crest Chapel in Rossville, Georgia. Her pastor, Dr. Courtney Krueger will be officiating.
