David Pennington, 81, of East Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at a local hospital. Mr. Pennington was a member of the Stewart Heights Baptist Church and had served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1963. He loved spending time with his family, helping others where needed, and volunteering with many benefits throughout the area. He was active with the PTA, was a member of the Coffee Break Club, and was an avid TN Vol fan. He was retired from the Tennessee American Water Company after 31 years of service. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andy Pennington; and sister, Sis Clinton. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Pat Pennington; daughters, Karen (David) Durrant and JoAnn Pedigo; sons, Brian (Christina) Smith and Richard (Stacy) Shelnutt; brother, Joe (Margaret) Pennington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
