William Wilson Marshall McCoy Jr., 74 (descendant of the famed Hatfields/McCoys), entered his eternal home Friday morning, Dec. 12, 2018. Mr. McCoy was a man with a heart and love for two homes… “Marshall” (as he was known by his Washington friends and family) was born in Bremerton, WA Feb. 5, 1944, to William and Geraldine McCoy. Marshall was one of three siblings. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, WA where he played football and ran track and field. Marshall was a season ticket holder for his beloved Washington Huskies. His brother Michael preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Bilinskly; his niece, Stacey; two half sisters, Lisa and Leslie; and his Aunt, Gay, all of Bremerton, Wash. “Bill”, as his Rossville/Chattanooga family refer to him, met his best friend Robert Powell of Chattanooga, Tenn., while serving in the Army of the Unites States. Bill served in the 82nd Airborne Division and fought in the Santo Domingo “Operation Power Pack”, 1965, completing two combat jumps. It was through this long term friendship with Robert that Bill met his wife, Gail Lynn Powell (deceased), Robert’s sister. Bill married Gail in 1993. They resided in Rossville, GA during their 23 years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage Bill took early retirement from Keyport Undersea Warfare Center, where he had been employed for many years. Bill worked part-time in Chattanooga for The Southern Belle Riverboat, Food City and the Dealers Auto Auction of Chattanooga. Through the influence of Bill’s Aunt Gay and Uncle Lawrence of Bremerton, Bill became a “Surrogate” father to Brittany Yokely (great niece) and grandfather to Gabrielle Yokely and Elise Ramsey (great-great nieces). As was his longtime desire, Bill traveled to Bremerton, WA in early May of this year to introduce his nieces to his family in Washington. Bill is survived by his stepson, Gregory Wyche, of Soddy-Daisy; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, all of whom became his family for many years. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Grace Works Church 6445 Lee Hwy, Chattanooga, TN 37421 with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Military Honors will be performed at the Church for Mr. McCoy. Interment will be in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church. Condolences may be shared at www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
