Franklin Haston

Our dear loved one, Franklin Delano “Papa” Haston, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Ringgold, Ga., on Feb. 11, surrounded by his loving family. Franklin or “Frank” as he was called, was born May 19, 1932, in Spencer, Tenn., Van Buren County and attended Spencer High School and Mansfield Senior High School in Mansfield, Ohio. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and worked for the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga until his medical retirement in 1981. Frank was an honorary member of the Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama and was given the tribal name of “Running Fox” by the Principal Chief. He was also a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Papa was a devoted husband and father who always thought of others. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Casto and Ida Grace Haston; wife, Jo Ella Morgan Haston; sisters, Lula Ray Haston, Flossy Mae Belle Bailey, Ova Mitchell Herder, Ethel Francis Gala and Wilma Joene Balf; brothers, John Thomas Haston, Henry Taylor Haston, Elwood Casto Haston, Ernest David Haston and Cooper Hudson Haston. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Lynn) Goss, of Ringgold; son, Roger (Doris) Haston, of Ringgold; son, Mark (Rachelle) Haston, of Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Lina Shelton Kuntz, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Ryan (Treasure) Coulter; Whitney (Daniel) Hille; Blaine (Heather) Haston, Zachary (Lesley Ann) Goss, Bethany (Logan) Hixson, Alex Goss, John Haston; great-grandchildren, Alex, Camper, Scout, Hamilton, McKinley and JoElla; numerous nieces and nephews that he loved and cared for dearly. The family would especially like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga, Chattanooga and NW Georgia locations for providing wonderful, loving care throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Chattanooga. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at lane-southcrestchapel.com. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, South Crest Chapel, Rossville with Rev. Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m. with full military honors. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
